Theseus
02:57

Effervescent
Feet touching sand where I thought I’d drown
Arboretum
A fecund heart in an arid world
Sunless vespers
Freedom forms on a tired tongue
Change keeps coming despite myself
Don’t be a hero!
I cannot bear to lose again
Dionysus!
The white flag shall not be flown
It must be done!
Theseus paces his bedroom floor
“I’ll wind us back!”
I’m holding on by a thread

I should write
a constitution
To govern all these vying thoughts
The ebb and flow of faith and doubt
Hedging my bets
Eying my escape
Worried lines and tired eyes
A topography of my regrets
Enthralled by chemistry and pedigree
Can’t shake this ambivalence
Tangled,
the mess of me.
Failures:
a synecdoche
a myth and
a destiny
can’t seem
to let them be
Are you taking questions?
‘Cause here’s a punch in the mouth.
I’m not ungrateful, just wondering
why you weren’t around.
It’s stupid how we dwell on
The scenes we can’t fix
I confuse these mysteries
As the essence of me
Press your face
Up against the glass
Take a hard look back
Till the fever breaks
In the light of dawn
After all that’s passed
We’ll collect our things
And move along
The shame! The shame! I stand corrected.
The time I wasted on mending fences
The lines we draw to sort our tenses
We were, we are, who the hell will we be
